I would like to know if there are any living descendants of this Jacob Schumacher.  I realize the book, "Shoemaker Family" by Thomas H. Shoemaker states that there were none living as of the printing of his book, but I am skeptical.  My grandfather told his grandmother told him that their ancestor that came to America was an indentured servant, about 13 years old and became a wheelwright.  This is a match to the description of the life of Jacob Schumacher of Germantown, indentured servant to Francis Daniel Pastorius.  There is a gap in the descendant lists on record and my earliest known ancestor, John Shoemaker of PA ca 1800.  I'm trying to determine where my John fits into the "World Family Tree" of Schumachers/Shoemakers.  If there is anyone descended from this Jacob Schumacher out there, please contact me.

Hello,
Sorry to be so long in responding.  I forgot my password and couldn't find it to get to the messages.  However, I don't think we're on the right track with the Jacobs.  My Jacob born in Germany.  All his children born in USA.   If you were thinking your Jerg was the son of my Jacob he would have had to have been born in USA; not Germany as your Gedcom shows.   ????  Or, am I missing something????

In looking at your Schumacher/Shoemaker family line I see some names that are also on mine line. I do not know if they are the same person. My original Jacob was born around 1685. Pat

Hi Karen,

as an inhabitant of Niederdollendorf, Germany, the village which has been the birth place of Peter and George Schumacher (Peter came to Germantown in 1685, George's widow arrived there in 1686 - both with their children), I have been a little bit occupied with the Schumacher family history. I own a copy of the lists of anabaptists from Niederdollendorf (="lower Dollendorf") and Oberdollendorf (="upper Dollendorf") and - firstly - it is very probable that your Jacob Schumacher is completely unrelated to these Schumachers, who have been driven away from Dollendorf to Kriegsheim, German Palatinate, in 1655 and emigrated to Germantown in the 1680ties. Secondly - your Jacob Schumacher seems to have come from Mainz, Germany and he is reported to have been a wood turner - which would apply to your notice that he was a wheelwright in Germantown (see : http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/PAMONTGO/2000-08/0965970190 ). He came in 1683 as a servant of F.D. Pastorius (see the passenger lists in: http://www.progenealogists.com/palproject/pa/1683amer.htm )
Another good source concerning the first inhabitants of Germantown is Cris Hueneke ( www.umstead.org ).
If once I will get some more information about your Jacob Schumacher, I will report it to you.

A supplement to my last post:

There are some hints, that Jacob Schumacher married Margaret Potts and had 4 children:

see: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/POTTS/1999-11/0942931458

"Margaret Potts b c1664; m Jacob Shoemaker of Germantown, PA; (and
had chn: George, Thomas, Susanna, Jacob) [SHOEMAKER (1903) 5-6]"

The source for these hints seems to be:
(1) Benjamin H. Shoemaker, Genealogy of the Shoemaker Family of Cheltenham, Pennsylvania, 1903,

There is also a blog by a man named "Bliss", who evidently had the following information from his mother:
see: http://straitofmessia.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html

"One Jacob Schumacher, a wood-turner from Dollendorf, Germany (born ~1650ish) emigrated to the U.S. as the indentured servant of Daniel Pastorius, the founder of Germantown, Pennsylvania.

While in Germantown, he met one Miss Margaret Potts, of Llangurig, Wales (b. 1664) (who had also recently emigrated to the U.S.), whom he married in 1685."

Andreas,
Thank you for your reply. Since I first posted I have learned that my family is not descendant from this Jacob of Germantown.  I recently learned that my lineage is of Rudolph of Cleebourg which may be the son of a Peter.
My George William b.1837 VA was the son of a George b.1801 who was the son of a George b.1763, son of Jacob b.1731 Cleegbourg who came to America ca 1749, son of Rudolph b. 1693 Cleebourg, son of Peter b.1638.
