What is gained by having tests beyond 12?  I know it means more detail but how is this detail useful?  Can dates of origin of these markers be determined?  Can 12 not provide enough detail to provide a relationship between individuals?  Right now I know my Y haplogroup is R1B but only have a vague idea what this means. I don't know when it began.  I also know I have 12 loci/markers but don't have the remotest idea what they mean or when they occurred.  My wife had her DNA tested by Genetic Ancestor LTD and received several locations where people had matching Markers.  She is now being tested by National Geographic and we will see if they also provide similar location/people matches.
Thanks
