We invite you to submit your "Pedigree" for this Surname.   Our Surname Project is primarily interested in your Paternal line, as surnames are passed down from father to son, just as the yDNA is passed down.

If you ARE A MEMBER of this Surname Project at Family Tree DNA, send your pedigree by email to WorldFamilies.net at mari@worldfamilies.net.  The pedigree will then be posted on the Surname Project's Patriarchs Page by Worldfamilies.net or sent to the Project’s Administrator.

Please include the following:  (If you have more information you would like to share, you may also post a more extended version of your family pedigree on the project website’s Pedigree Forum below)
•       Name of project
•       Kit Number
•       Name of person posting pedigree
•       Email address to be posted with pedigree
•       Name, birthdate, birthplace, spouse of Earliest Known Ancestor
•       List each succeeding generation, using only those four items of information (or substitute another item of information if missing an item)

If you are NOT A MEMBER of this Surname Project at Family Tree DNA, you are welcome to post your pedigree on the Pedigree Forum below.  We hope an interested researcher will see it and contact you to share information.

To post on this Pedigree Forum:
1.  Register and log in at www.worldfamilies.net.

John C spelled his name with an N.? All his descendnts in my line (Hampton) spelled it without the N.
Hampton's brother John Wesley (1825-aft 1870) spelled his name with an N.
Hampton's brother Charles Schultz (1827-aft 1910) mostly spelled his name without the N.
There are no records found for this line spelled Atkinson (with the T).

Hello!
I do not know very much about my Atkinson ancestors and have just begun to search. Here is what I have so far:
John Onedus Atkinson--B. October 12, 1858 in Ridge Springs, S. Ca/ d. June 6 ,1929
M. Alice Blaylock-July 25, 1855 in Augusta, Georgia  --Killed by Blacks who were shooting at John Onedus Atkinson and hit her by mistake. He is my great grandfather on my mother's side.
They are buried at Republican Baptist Cemetary in Edgefield County, South Carolina.

John Joseph Atkinson, (son) B. June 3,1894--D. May 14,1931-- Died of a heart condition while working on a construction project. He met Sibyl while convalescing in the hospital where she worked as a nurse.  M. Sibyl Padget B. June 17, 1895 at Monetta, South Carolina /
D.-  December 29, 1982 McKinney, Texas

Children:  Joseph, John, Marjorie Alice Atkinson-Suttles-Selbee, and Doris Atkinson-Anderson.
All are deceased except for Doris.

Marjorie is my mother and she died in 1970. Married Richard Suttles and had one child, Charles Allen Richard Selbee.  Divorced and Married Charles Albert Selbee after World War II was over. and who was my father.

Children of Marjorie and Charles Selbee:
Linda Selbee-Ronningen-Pederson-Kangas , June 1, 1950; Cherilynne Selbee-Ronningen,
September 7, 1952;  Erin Eileen Selbee. May 6, 1964.

My aunt, Doris Anderson, was contacted about 10 years ago by a Native American tribe in Georgia and asked to participate in tribal records research and meetings, but declined to do so. She threw away the letter and told me about it. According to their records, we have Native American ancestors in this tribe, but I have been unable to find any records which indicate this. My research so far leads me to believe that this relationship would most likely be through either Alica Blaylock's line or through John Onedus Atkinson. I am interested in any informtion I can find about my Native American relatives.

Please feel free to edit this in any way you need to or to ask for any other information necessary.

Famariah Patience (unknown maiden)Atkinson came down to Marion,SC, from Sampson County, NC, as a widow with about four children. Jesse Atkinson was her son and  he married Ann Bryant and began a line of Atkinsons from Brittons Neck, Marion County, South Carolina. The year his mother moved to SC was around 1788 or earlier. Jesse's birthdate is reported to be around 1750.
Jesse's brother's possible William, Isaac and sister Lattice Atkinson.
There are some Darlington, SC, Atkinsons but we don't know of any connection. Are there any Sampson County Atkinsons in your group? Thanks, Peg

D: 1800 Bucks, PA

John Atkinson
B: 25 Apr 1695 Scotforth, , England
D: Jan 1752 Pennsylvania, USA

John Atkinson
B: 1660 Scotforth, , England
D: Jul 1699 USA or Atlantic Ocean Smallpox outbreak  (about76 of 140 passengers died on ship or shortly after disembarking)

John's brother Christopher Atkinson and John's Wife Susannah Hynde  died also -- the very young orphaned child(ren) went to Bucks, PA. Christopher's pregnant wife (Margaret Fell) and young children also went to Bucks, PA.  They were Quakers.

It is unlikely that I will be able to contact the closest cousins for the Y-DNA test, but wanted this branch to be posted to encourage those along this line to be tested.  As far as I can tell, this early John (& Susannah) had 3 children - William,Mary, and John, but after that the males produced many offspring.

some of the earliest several generations not completely proven. also, there is an Atkinson who married into this line (Mary Jane m. Mark), I don't know their ancestry;

Robert Atkinson m. Mary
Richard Atkinson chr. 6 Nov 1743 Long Marton, Westmoreland, England
   m. Ann Airey
Robert Atkinson chr. 4 Dec 1766 Brampton, England m. Mary Aitken
John Atkinson b. Sep 1801 Kirkby Thore, England m. Julia Wilhelm
Anna Mary Atkinson b.abt 1826 PA m. Abraham Chambers
         Elizabeth Atkinson b. abt 1829 PA m. 1 Joseph Foulke, 2 J. McDonald
         James Atkinson b. unknown
         John R. Atkinson b. 18 Jan 1833 PA m. Louisa A. Garland
Ann Atkinson b. __ Jan 1802 Kirkby Thore
Hannah Atkinson __Jul 1803 Kirkby Thore m. Edward Steacy
Sarah Atkinson b. abt 1805 Kirkby Thore m. 1 Thomas Hodgson
Mary Jane Atkinson b. abt 1807 Kirkby Thore m. Mark Atkinson
Mark Atkinson b. abt 1828 PA m. Eliza Jane Ely
         Jane Atkinson b. unknown
         John Atkinson b. unknown
         Mary E. Atkinson b. abt 1832 OH m. 1 Benjamin Whitson 2 John Craven
         unknown male Atkinson b. unknown
James Atkinson b. __Oct 1808 Kirkby Thore m. Lydia Ann Watt
Eliza Atkinson b. abt 1832 OH m. Asa Howard Battin
Lydia Ann Atkinson b. 5 Nov 1827 OH m. Jesse Wright Harris
      Jane Atkinson b. 2 Nov 1811 Kirkby Thore m. Elias A. Bonine
Robert Atkinson b. __ Mar 1813 Kirkby Thore m. Mary Taylor
Elizabeth Atkinson b. __ Nov 1843 PA m. John Hart
         Permelia F. Atkinson b. __ Mar 1845 PA m. William Doxy
         Ellen J. Atkinson b. __ Dec 1847 PA m. Merrill Boyton Anderson
         Robert Atkinson b. unknown
Richard Atkinson b. __Feb 1814 Kirkby Thore
      Elizabeth Atkinson b. __ Mar 1817 Kirkby Thore m. William H. Cross
Aitken Atkinson b. __ May 1819 Kirkby Thore removed self from genepool
Ann Atkinson b. 3 Nov 1822 Lancaster, Pennsylvania
Richard Atkinson chr. __ Mar 1770 Knock, Westmoreland, England
Mary Atkinson chr. 19 Dec 1770 Esperlandhill Westmoreland, England
Ann Atkinson chr. 17 Feb 1774 Esperlandhill Westmoreland England

The Atkinsons came, in groups, to America. there is no record of their immigration as they came into Baltimore in 1822 and records for Baltimore for that period were destroyed. we do have Sarah's immigration record, as she was much later and came into New York.

Robert was a silk weaver. I don't know much of anything about previous generations.

this family is not in my father's ydna line or my mother's mtdna line, it is part of my father's mother's father's ancestry.
