The U5 project now has 50 participants!? The project also now has three people who have had full-sequence mtDNA tests. My goal for this year is to have 100 members. I don't know if that's possible, but there's no point in setting a goal that's too easy.? The more people we have, the sooner we will be able to make meaningful genealogical matches and be better able to tell how and in what time frame we're related.

Our group has some extremely knowledgeable members.? We have people who know a lot about genealogy, genetics, anthropology, and more.? I am sure that you can get answers to your questions about the best resources to trace your maternal ancestry, DNA testing options, the U5 haplogroup, etc.? Just post a message to this forum, and see what happens.

If you haven't seen our website lately, please go to <http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/u/u5/>. We have many new results and many new pedigrees.? If you would like to add your pedigree, please do. You may also wish to add additional maternal descendants to your current pedigree.? For example, I added the sister of one of my ancestors because I know that sister had daughters and may have living descendants. See the pedigrees for U1 and for U43 to see different ways of adding other female lines.

U5a1a - Latest Results

My wife and I have an exact matched with MTDNA Haplogroup U5a1a.

We come from the same village in Italy: Santo Stefano Di Camastra (Saint.Steven Messina, Sicily).

U5a1a = Nordic - "Founder" haplotypes in Europe and the Near East (Scandinavia) - were Viking/Normans or Nordic/Germanic people.

I have many matches in the UK - from both sides: R1b1c and U5a1a. I come from Sicily.

I have more information about us at: http://www.genoproject.com
