George Washington Starr b. 1808? Ohio? Virginia? m. Elizabeth 1823? d. 1880 Arkansas
Andrew Jackson Starr b.10/20/1836 Tipton County Tennessee m. Elizabeth Susan Ingram Jan 1865 d.2/16/1899 Faulkner County, Arkansas
James Decatur Starr b. 10/16/1865 Conway, Arkansas m.11/10/1889 Luzenia Theodocia Bryant d. 5/3/1951 Lubbock, Texas
Ules Cecil Starr b.7/2/1903 Texas m. Ada Varina Moore d. 7/25/1987 Lubbock, Texas
Louis Nelson Starr b. 10/20/1937 Pecos County, Texas m. Melva Jean
Shannon Paul Starr b. 9/27/1965 Lubbock, Texas

Our line (as outlined above) is documented in an old family bible, and matches specific people on census data.
There is an oral tradition that we were "black dutch" which we think may mean white people that intermarried with native Americans.
GW's birth data changes on almost every census (perhaps he was illiterate?), although his age, spouse, children, residence and occupation remain the same.
The pattern seems to fit someone who had some native American ancestry, was forcibly relocated first to Tennessee and then Arkansas (ie: Trail of Tears)
Although there are similarities in family names, we are not directly related to the controversial James, Tom and George Starrs that are sometimes viewed as traitors of the Cherokee Nation.
My people seem to have been quiet, peace loving people that just went where they were told.
AJ was conscripted to fight in the Civil War (we have his papers); my great grandfather JD was a Civil War baby-boomer.
Some of my cousins have rather recklessly linked GW with Caleb Starr although the dates seem fairly unlikely; we have no evidence whatsoever.
Whomever GW may have been, he is the spot where my family tree vanishes in the clouds; I'm hoping that DNA might help solve some of the mystery.
