Test results @FTDNA have further defined my Stover Haplogroup as R1b1c10

Daniel Stauffer appears to have used Stover  as his surname exclusively after immigrating to America in 1753 and moving from Pennsylvania to Virginia.

Thanks - Steve Stover (S4)

I received 7 matches for my Y-DNA test kit 308352, Haplogroup E1b1b1, 5 of these are from the surname Stover and one Bailey.
Mary Adkins was born in Goochland Co. VA in 1735 and died in 1817 in Cabell Co., WV.  The following story has been passed down for generations as to why she kept the Adkins name for her six children:
"Mary Adkins is the mother of almost all Adkins descendants of Southwestern West Virginia. With most family researchers her descendants make up the so-called "Royal Line". This Royal Line theory comes from the family oral tradition that Mary lived common law with a descendant of the Earl of Oxford. According to the tradition, he deserted Mary and her children during the Revolutionary War and returned to England. Because the family name of the person that held the title 'Earl of Oxford' during the mid 1700s was Harley it was assumed by almost all researchers that this man's name was Jacob Harley. Mary Adkins is buried in an unmarked grave on Beech Fork at the mouth of Bowen's Creek."
Relatives have researched for years trying to find the actual surname. Mary's six children were born between 1754 and 1767 in the Lunenberg and Pittsylvania Co, VA area.   Since receiving my Y-DNA results I have been researching the Stover name in connection with my family origin.  On a 1767 Pittsylvania Co Tithes listing I found a Jacob and Jeremiah Stover living very near two of Mary's brothers.  Also, Mary's oldest son, David, was born in the Snow Creek area of Lunenberg Co, VA in 1754.  I have found two land records in Lunenberg County that show Jacob Stover Jr was selling acreage of his deceased father, Jacob Stover Sr, in 1754.

I am new to DNA-based genealogy.  Please post my family pedigree in hopes of making connections with cousins from this particular line of PA.  Alternate spellings found in various records are Stover, Stofer, Stowfer, Staffer & Stoufer.  We pronounce the name as "Stover".  I've never been able to identify John Stauffer's 1st wife, but I believe they had only one child, David, b. 1813 in Centre Co., PA.

John Stauffer b. 13 Jan 1789 Centre Co., PA m. ? 1st wife

David Stauffer b. 14 Jan 1813 Centre Co., PA m. Mary C. Barnhart

Benjamin Franklin Stauffer b. 3 Sep 1838 Ross Co., OH m. Hester Ann Keller

David Allen Stauffer b. 20 Dec 1869 Ross Co., OH m. Catharine Harriet Baglin

Clifford Nelson Stauffer b. 16 Jul 1909 Ross Co., OH m. Irene L. Snyder
