Welcome to the mtDNA Haplogroup T1 Forum.  In order to participate in this project, you need to have a maternal line that connects to someone whose mtDNA test result is T1. 

We require that you provide a maternal pedigree for you T1 family.  You can use mine on the Matriarch page as an example.  Click  here to go to the Matriarch Page.

I have not been able to find much information about Haplogroup T3. I have heard from a reliable source that the Ancient Egyptian Queens, also called the Daughters of Isis, were Haplogroup T3.
Would anyone like to comment on that?

Last year I had the HVR1 and HVR2 test through FTDNA. They classified me as T5. I have read a few times in various places that it is not even certain if there is a true subclade T5.

What does it take to establish that a new mtDNA subclade actually has been discovered? If T5 is not an actual subclade, then where does it belong on the T phylogenetic tree?

Also, I have noticed that there are 39 T5's on mitosearch.org - I am 6M79M there. I have two HVR1 mutations which seem to be rare for the T5 subclade. These are 16189C ( I do have 2 people on the T5 list who match me on that) and 16274A, which no else matches. Is there any way to estimate how recent those two mutations are or if they will mainly be found in one geographical area? One of my matches to 189C has ancestry from northern Italy and my maternal line, at least back to c. 1817, is from southern Italy. I find this interesting.

As I noted in signing my posting, I'm co-administrator of the Sicily Project, which keeps me very busy, along with my work schedule. At this point in time, I wouldn't have the time to do it.

Hi - I just registered because I note that Cherie has the same codes as I do - except I have an extra one 311 - I'm very new at this - and it is my sister who has been keeping the pedigree charts over the years.  I'm part of the National Geographic Study.

Hello! My wife was first identified (FTDNA) as T1 and later, T*. Her mutations are:

HVR1 126c, 186t, 189c, 294t, 519c

HVR2 73G, 152C, 195C, 263G, 309.1, 315.1C

Do you know which one this is? Was there a change in what mutations T1 has?

Based on David Pike's work, your wife's result is T1 and you are missing a mutation at 163G.

We are hoping that FTDNA will join us in using David's work as the haplogroup T reference - but until they do, we'll work with folks one on one.

I just found out a little while ago that I am a T1. I having my HRV2 test done now. This lingo is all new to me and I'm trying to find my way around. Do you have my muations on my HRV1? or am I supposed to post them here. Not sure what to do.

Assuming that you were tested at FTDNA, you can go to your personal page, click on "Join" then find the mt-DNA projects (at the very bottom of the choices, click on "T" and then click on "T1"

If you can't make that work, call or email FTDNA and have them join you to the project.

I found your data interesting because of an undoubted coincidence.  You appear to be S21 y and T mtDNA.  Similar for me but the circumstances are greatly different, so I am hoping maybe we can both learn something from a comparison (or from anyone else who has some knowledge in this area). 

I am yDNA S29/U198 and mitochondrial T1b.  Actually, my test to date is a low resolution T.  I know I am T1b because in the process of becoming familiar with T1b this past week I learned I have 5 matches, all people I know, from the Bahamas, including a person who shares my great grandmother.  Their tests were high resolution and all of them are T1b.  On the low resolution matches through FT DNA 2 of my most recent matches are found in Italy, 2 in Spain, 2 in Germany, 1 in Syria.   

I have read all the general stuff I can find, which discusses T1 and T2 and the Romanovs.   I have also read somewhere that up to 10 percent of the very North of France may be T.  However, I have found very little info on T1b, less even than on S29/U108.     The only reference I can find in non technical terms speaks of the Balkans and Near East.  Another poster on another forum also suggested the Vikings.

There is one thing I noticed that I have not seen mentioned previously.  Maybe it is a red herring, but at least 3 of the names that appear on the S29/U108 list also appear on the T list.

So, I am hoping that by an exchange of information maybe I can better learn how my T1b came to reside in the Bahamas on a ship from UK.

Hello.  I thought I might address this question to you.  I read the article on T.  It is not doubt and excellent scientific article.  I was hoping for a little more, well, tribal kind of information.   The article notes that there were only 2 people in the sample who were T1b.  I believe I am T1b.  Why?  Because my cousins are and I am T and match them. The Bahamas in my mother's era and before could get kinda isolated, especially on an out island.  So I am fairly confident of my prediction.

I am trying to learn what I can about T1b.  An FTDNA analyst told me there is very little in the literature about it outside of the article, to which all to whom I talk refer me.   Are you aware of anything that might be of help to me in trying to go tribal, so to speak, on this issue?
