Haplogroup K

I have just received my text results and am looking for matches and, perhaps more importantly, for someone who can explain what this all means.  My test showed five mutations from CRS:

16223T
16224C
16234T
16311C
16519C

My grandmother was Zlata (Lottie) BERKOVICS b Ujvaros, Hungary, 1878.  I believe that her mother's maiden name was GROSZ.  Ujvaros was in Szatmar megye (county), Hungary and was part of the area ceded to Romania after World War I.  It is now Orasu Nou, Romania.  I've been researching my family for about 15 years and, unfortunately, this is the branch about which I know the least!   Please get in touch if you can explain what the test means or if you have roots in this part of old Hungary.

I have just received my mtDNA testing, and I am trying to understand. I wanted to find out if my mother was Native American and Cherokee. I am adopted. However, I didn't realize when I took the test with GeneTree that the test was going to go back into the mists of time, and the test results showed i am of the West Eurasian Haplogroup K. So I called them up, and they said to determine the real Mother and Father I SHOULD have taken the autosomal Dna test. Now they tell me after I spent lots of money! If I take this new test, it will be more money...another $219! Is there another company that doesn't charge so much so I can determine my Native American Mother for sure in THIS lifetime? Does anyone know anything about why the K group is all over the map? Has anyone ever found any K group in the Cherokees? Thanks! Mystified...Kuanyin

 Hi, I just got my mtdna results recently and am also in "K"
 Haplogroup.

 The results for the CRS  are

  16519C

  My maternal surname is Myers and oral tradition says that the immigrant to the u.s. was a George Myers b  1833 and that he was from Austrian-Hugarian Empire.
 It seems Vivian that we might be genetic cousins, no?

Hi

I was surprised to see Haplogroup K as I was always told my grandmother was native American. I am not adopted.

My mom never new much about her mother and father, so I took this test to find out if she was really native American. My grandmothers name was Vendell Helen Meyers. On the census of 1920, New York, she lists herself born in Brooklyn, New york.  I have different birth years, from 1888-1883.

Her father's name is David Meyers.  She married Raymond Seldon Crowe. Not sure of marriage date. I know they lived in New York, Connecticut and Missouri.That is about all I know.

My father's mother's side is K.  We were always told we were German Jews with last names of Wexler and Goldwein; however, it seems that most of the matches (some Austro-Hungarian) are from Eastern Romania.  Here they are: HVR1 Haplogroup
