Yesterday was a great day for research in this family as Sam Geer found notes proving to him Martha was the wife of John Geer c 1769 at the time of his death. Robert Sellars Geer sent for a test and placed his pedigree, this should be very important to Ben Callahan and Sean Harley who are decended from daughters of John. August 7th is a Geer reunion in Sparta Tn. at the Civic Center. Any new news and questions are welcome. The people listed here have between them files of Geer related history that they are welling to share with cousins. I am sure would this can become a very profitable site for geer research as our tests come in Leda

Enough results are now in for the GEER family DNA Project so that meaningful conclusions can be made about family relationships of the participants.?

(1) Results prove a relationship between descendants of David Geer (b. c 1745 NC, d. 1821 White Co., TN), ID G-3, and descendants of John Geer (d. 1769 Orange Co., NC), ID G-2.? Participants ID G-3 and ID G-2 are therefore 5th cousins once removed.

(2) Results for descendants of Ransom Geer (b. 1802 NC, d. 1885 White Co., TN), ID G-1, disprove a Geer ancestor as Ransom's father.? Circumstantial evidence, however, supports a family connection to the above John Geer through John's granddaughter, Mary "Polly" Geer (daughter of John's son Frederick).? This identifies participant G-1 as the 4th cousin of participant G-3 and 5th cousin of participant G-2.

(3) Results for descendants of George Geer (b. c1621 Heavitree, Devon, England, d. 1726 Preston, New London Co., CT), ID G-4, are not a match to the above Geer descendants suggesting that the John Geer descendants above are from a different branch of this family.

Furhter testing of Geer descendants, particularly descendants of Solomon Geer (b. 1760 - April 15, 1809) of New London Co., CT (which includes Geers who settled in Anderson Co., SC) and other known descendants of immigrants George and Thomas Geer of Conneticut would greatly help in adding clarifiaction of these family lines.

Dear Geer Family Group, We would like to welcome Carl Geer to our growing family. His test has returned a near perfect match 36 of 37 markers to Luther Geer another descendant of Ransom Geer. This will help establish a point of divergence from the rest of the Geer line. As Ransom was a Great Grandson of John Geer of Orange county N.C. While still little is known of the circumstance of Ransom other than his mother was Mary (polly) Geer daughter of Frederick Geer son of John. We do now know that his father was of the Nanney family as a Dna test match has confirmed this. But records have not yet allowed the naming of any one male Nanney as his father.
