I just started researching my family pedigree.  It seems that I come from a long line of leonards from Taunton Mass. I cant get past William Leonard. I don't know if this is perfect but it is what I have so far. Any help I could get would be great.

Two people who trace their origins to William Leonard and Sarah Bolton have been tested.  One tested in haplogroup J2 and the other in haplogroup R1b.  They can't be related to each other.  One has to be the descendant of someone else.  You could be the tie-breaker and lead to the identification of William Leonard and his descendants' haplogroup.  Have you had your y-dna tested?  If so, may we have the results?

Update

Robert Leonard (1795) was born in The Old Pendleton District of South Carolina, moved to Tennessee in 1806 with his parents(Robert Leonard 1780 Md and Catherine York). He subsequently moved to Greene Co. Illinois where he died in 1855. His original ancestors came to the States in 1750 from Ireland. They were of Scots-Irish descent. Three brothers came  together, they were Robert to Maryland, Thomas and Samuel. One went to North Carolina and one went to Georgia, I am not sure which went to NC and Ga. Their descendants spread throughout Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. My line starts with Robert Leonard who fought with the British Army before settling in Maryland where he Married Honor Pritchard of English descent. He fought with Revolutionaries and was killed in the Battle of Camden in 1780. His son Robert Leonard was born in Maryland in 1760 and was married to Catherine York. There son Robert Leonard was born in SC and moved to Tennessee in 1806 where he married Darcus Barnard. They moved to Greene Co. Illinois in about 1816 along with his and her parents. My grandfather William Leonard was born in Jacktown, Ohio in 1840. He lived in both Kansas and Nebraska. He is buried in Elk Creek Neb.

You will notice that EC Lenard and Margaret Lenard spelled their name without the "o".  This was how William Carroll Leonard wrote his parents names on the marriage certificate.  The first Robert E Leonard was shot to death accidentally by his brother William Carroll Leonard when they were very young.   

Unfortunately I have to find EC Le"o"nard information. to move further back, and hopefully the tests will add me to the Leonard clan or remove me.
