I AM NOT CERTAIN IF THIS IS SOMETHING WE SHOULD BE INVOLVED IN.

MY BROTHER WAS TESTED BY THE FAMILY TREE DNA GROUP AND WE WERE WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE BY THAT LAST NAME WAS TESTED ALSO?

THE KIT # FOR MY BROTHER IS ______.? WE THOUGHT WE WERE GERMANS SINCE OUR EARLIEST ANCESTOR WE CAN FIND CAME FROM NORTHERN GERMANY, BUT THE TEST SAYS WE ARE VIKINGS!

WOULD YOU LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS ON BECOMING INVOLVED IN THIS FAMILY PROJECT?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME - MARGIE
Hi Margie.? You are very welcome to join the Hahn DNA Project.? You can ask FTDNA to transfer your kit into the Project, which will cause it to be listed on their main index.? Once a project is listed there, it is more likley to draw other participants.? You will have your best chance to match other Hahn families with an active Hahn Project.

The Haplogroup associated with vikings is found across Europe.? The correlation is a best guess.? There are a number of families who carry this result who were not vikings.? But, a Northern German heritage could mean that you do have a viking heritage.

I hope that you'll post your family pedigree.

The Vikings settled in coastal regions all over Europe, including modern-day Germany.  The land in many parts of Scandinavia was poor and there were famines and overpopulation.  As a result, there was an enormous incentive for sailing elsewhere.  Not all of these trips involved rapine and pillage.  The vikings were also traders and settlers.  Pick up a good history book to learn more.
