? Unk Myers, b. c. 1790-1800 - Germany; believed to have left Germany and lived awhile in France, than to England where he than immigrated to USA, entering through NY. Is unknown if he married prior to leaving Germany or later in France or England (family oral history has it that he married in France, or at least his wife was French)? We do not know if he and his wife entered the US with children or not, nor is it known if any of his siblings immigrated to US with his family or may have followed him to the States at a later date; it is believed at least one brother also immigrated to US about the same time or shortly after his arrival in NY.
? Note: Jack's Grandfather, James H. Myers, told us that at one time in the city of Nelsonville where he grew up, there lived several families by the name of Myers, Meijers, Meirs, Meyers, and Myer and that they were all related (first, second cousins, etc) the original spelling of the family name was something like the Meijers who own the Department store chain; anyways, when they reached the US, the immigration people spelled the surname as they heard it; other family members who entered the states wound up with whatever spelling was "given" to them by the port authorities; some others changed the spelling to make it more "American"; some family went to Pennsylvania, some settled in NY and eventually migrated to OH, some others are believed to have gone to and settled in "the South" and changed the spelling of their names to "fit in" whatever region they settled in.

Hope some of these names and dates "strike a chord" with some other Myers out there and we get to connect with some "lost" kin. And solve the mystery of our family history. Yes, my husband is going to participate in the Myers DNA Project, he's enthusiastic about it. His kit was ordered just earlier today.
