We invite you to submit your "Pedigree" for the Patton Family Project Patriarch page. (You don’t have to be a test participant to post your family pedigree.)

There are two ways to make your pedigree available to the project administrator for posting on the Patriarch Page:
1.  Send the pedigree by email directly to carrie@worldfamilies.net in the simplified form described below  (If you send it this way, your pedigree will only be posted on the Patriarch Page, and will not be included in the Pedigree Forum)
Be sure to include

                 E
mail address you wish to be posted with the pedigree
Kit number of the project participant whose pedigree this is
                 N
ame, birthdate, birthplace, spouse for each generation (direct  male line).

2.  Log-in to post your pedigree on the Pedigree Forum.  By posting your pedigree on the forum, you are making it available for the Project Administrator to post it on the Patriarch Page, along with your contact information, and kit number (or code identity number).

  1. You must be logged in to post on this forum.
How do I register to post a pedigree?
I've already registered. How do I log in?

  2.  Please include your Kit number or Code Identity number if you have been tested for the project.

  3. Please read the following instructions, then scroll down to the last posting on this forum and click "reply" in order to post your pedigree.

  4. The pedigree for a Surname Project follows your paternal line.  Please post only the information for each generation:

Full Name of Earliest Known Male Ancestor for this Surname
His birthdate
Birthplace
Spouse’s name

(If you are missing any piece of this information, post another bit of identifying information)

Suggestions for Posting your Pedigree on this forum:

o        Post four pieces of information for each ancestor

o        Begin with the earliest generation

o        Use standard abbreviations:  m=married, b=born, d=died, c=circa, Co=county, VA=Virginia, GA=Georgia, etc

o        Try to keep to one line per generation

o        Include only generations that have this family surname

o        Provide your name and email address as the pedigree provider

o        Provide the kit number and/or project code identity number if pedigree is for a tested participant

o        Use surname with each generation

o        Don’t use all caps

o        Don’t include anyone whose birthdate is after 1910, for privacy concerns.

o        Don’t number the generations

Scroll down to the last posting on this forum and click "reply". Post your pedigree in the box provided, and click "Post".

If you do not see a"reply" tab, it means you have lost your log in and will need to log in again in order to post. Go back to the project home page, log in again, and return to the pedigree forum. Login should hold the second time.

Hi!
I'm a Patton descendant through both parents (they are seventh "Patton" cousins). The common ancestor being Henry Patton, Jr. (b. c.1660 in Scotland) and his wife Sarah Lynn (b. c.1670 in Dundee, Scotland). My father descends from Henry's son John Patton (b. abt. 1689 in Ireland; d. 1756/7 in Augusta Co., VA) and his wife Sarah Rogers (b.? abt. 1700 Ireland; d. bef. 1754 in Augusta Co., VA), while my mother descends from John's sister Elizabeth Patton (b. 25 Dec. 1700 in Ireland; d. 1776 in Greenfield, VA) and her husband John Preston (b. abt. 1700 in Ireland). They all came together to the American colonies aboard "The Walpole" in 1738. The Walpole's Captain was John and Elizabeth's brother James Patton.
My father's side is such:
John Patton m. Sarah Rogers
Matthew Patton b. 1730 Ireland m. Hester Dyer b. 1731 PA
Matthew Patton Jr. b. May 1750 in Aug. Co. VA m. Rebecca May
Rebecca Patton b. 22 Sep 1786 Baltimore, MD m. Edward Palmer b. VA; d. Christian Co., KY
Robert Palmer b. 7 May Hopkinsville, KY m. Rose Glennon b. 10 Oct 1836 Kells, County Meath, Ireland
Ellen "Nellie" Palmer b. 29 Sep 1885 Hot Springs Valley, Kern Co., Calif. m. Charles Beaty b. 7 April 1875 in Kernville, CA
Wendell Beaty (my grandfather) b. 1919 in Los Angeles, CA m. Elizabeth Childs b. 1920, San Francisco, CA

My mothers line is such:
Letitia/Letice Preston b. 1725/8 IRE m. Col. Robert Breckenridge b. 1716 in Ireland; d. Botetourt, VA
Hon. John Breckinridge (spelled with an "i" from now on) b. 2 Dec 1760, VA m. Mary "Polly" Hopkins Cabell b. 1769 Albermarle, VA
Rev. Robert Jefferson Breckinridge b. 8 Mar 1800, KY m. Ann Sophonisba Preston* b. 1809, VA
Sophonisba Preston Breckinridge b. 22 Aug 1839 in Fayette Co., KY m. Maj. Theophilus Steele, the son of Thomas Steele and Eliza Ann Wilson, both of Franklin Co., KY.
Captain Theophilus Breckinridge Steele b.? c.1863 in KY; d. bef 17 July 1923 in Los Angeles, CA m. Elizabeth Catherine Cram b. 23 Ap 1876 in Yreka, Shasta Co., CA
Preston Steele (my grandfather) b. 1908 in Cuba m. Jean McAllister Herbert b. 1914 in San Antonio, TX.

I placed an asterisk by Ann Sophonisba Preston because she too, was descended from Henry Patton > Elizabeth Patton Preston, as such:
Col. William Preston b. 1762 in? Ire. m. Susannah Smith b. 1738/9
Gen. Francis Smith Preston b. 2 Aug. 1765 in? Montgomery Co., VA m. Sarh Buchannan Campbell b. 22 April 1778 in? Augusta Co., VA.
Gen. Francis S. Preston and Sarah B. Campbell were Ann's parents.

I tried to keep this simple...hope it is useful to others.
-Sara

Greetings Cousins,
I'm the granddaughter of Ernest Dock Patton of Solider (and Morehead) Ky. who was the son of Jackson Dock Patton of Carter Co. Ky (state Representative to Ky. legislature in 1929-30), who was the son of Granville Patton of Floyd and finally Rowan County, Ky.
By reading Dr. David Agricola's postings I see my line comes from John Patton (born in Montgomery Co., Va) who was the son of James Patton and Florence Graham of Va. then Floyd Co. Ky. and James Henry was the son of Henry Patton born about 1720 in Ireland.
I have photos of Ernest and Jackson to share.
But can anyone help me elaborate on this history?

I come from Pattons, though it is not my surname.  It is my mom's.  I am going very far back with this, so bear with me.

Humphey Patton, b 1556 in Scotland

Thomas Patton, b 1578 in Scotland

Matthew Patton (the first one), b 1600 in Kilmarnock, Scotland; married Christian Porteous (b 1600); this Patton was beheaded in the square of Glasgow, Scotland 19 Dec 1666 for his participation in the Pentland Rising and being a member of the Covenentors.  He also had a son named Matthew.  I will add more later.

My earliest known ancestor is Samuel Patton, b. 9 June 1811 (supposedly) in PA. m. Margaret Woltz 31 July 1844. d. 7 Mar 1888 in Brushcreek Twp., Highland Co., OH

James Madison Patton, b. 2 Feb 1849 in Brushcreek Twp., Highland Co., OH.       m.  Hepsy Ann Gall  9 Feb 1871. d. 3 Jan 1913 in Brushcreek Twp., Highland Co., OH

Charles Clifton Patton  b. 5 June 1878 in Brushcreek Twp., Highland Co., OH.  m. Katherine Alma Kisling  30 Mar 1904. d. 27 May 1944 in Brushcreek Twp., Highland Co., OH

Richard G. Patton  b. 8 Feb 1908 in Brushcreek Twp., Highland Co., OH  m. Edna Burns  28 June 1933. d. 13 Sep 1990 in Hillsboro, Highland Co., OH  (my parents).

Samuel Patton bought land in Brushcreek Twp., Highland Co., OH in 1834.  I have no idea where he came from, who he came here with, etc.  That is some of the information I hope to get.  In one of the early U.S. Federal census' he said he was born in PA.  In 1884, he was visited by a Mrs. Aughinbaugh and her son, of Pittsburgh.  This was reported in the local newspaper, which said, "Mrs. Aughinbaugh is a relative of Samuel Patton."  I was never able to find out who Mrs. Aughinbaugh was.  Samuel Patton was a merchant and postmaster of Sinking Spring, OH (which is in Brushcreek Twp.).
