From an email sent by Len Holmes [eldholmes AT tds.net]:

Dear Black Family

My name is Elmo Len Holmes.
My kit number 92461

My earliest known ancestor is Garnet Holmes(Homes)
b. c 1780 in Virginia
m unknown
d. after 1870  in Randolph County Alabama

His wife Sara unknown
b. unknown
d. unknown in Randolph County Alabama

Migration path seems to be Virginia, N Carolina, Tennessee, S. Carolina (most offsprings born) Georgia (Cherokee and Carroll) (land lotteries) , Alabama

Lawson B.  (c 1803-  NC -1887 Marshall Ala). married Lucinda Barnes(1820- 1890) migrated through SC, Georgia marrying Lucinda there in 1834.
Fathering 11 children from 1834 to 1903.

James A (1805-1895) married Mary unknown (McDonald)? unknown perhaps born in NC . Migrations through SC, Georgia with Land Lotteries, Alabama (Randolph, Shelby, Lamar) perhaps migration to Texas though unsubstantiated.

I am hypothesizing the connection in Lincoln County NC with Tabitha Doshey Homesly and Ephriam Black  and unknown male Black family members.

Thanks

To Patricia and Len:
Thanks for submitting your pedigree.    It has been posted on the project’s Patriarch Page.  http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/black/pats
(After November 15, 2012, pedigrees of project members must be submitted by email to carrie@worldfamilies.net in order to be posted on the Patriarch Page.)

To Kay:
Thanks for posting your pedigree.  We hope an interested researcher will see it and contact you to share information.  We have revised our policy for the Patriarch Page so that only pedigrees for members of the Surname Project at Family Tree DNA are posted on the Project’s Patriarch Page.  If there is a kit number associated with this pedigree, please send your pedigree by email to carrie@worldfamilies.net Best of luck in your further research.

I am brand new here.  Kit number 267631
Hopefully my kit will get processed soon and I can get some questions answered.  I am an amateur at this so I will give it my best shot and update this to reflect the best information I have.
Me:  Kevin T Black 1967 Portland Oregon
Father: Terrence K Black May 1939 Portland Oregon
Grandfather George William Black Portland Oregon 1913-1974
GGrandfather William Archibold or possibly Archibald, Illinois (Wabash possibly?) 18 FEB 1875 - 16 June 1942 Portland Oregon.
That is as far back as I can reliably go.  There might be 2 George Washington Black's preceeding him but I do not know if that is accurate or not.  Would love to find that I have someone else that can tie up the loose ends and fill in the blanks and maybe even find a few distant cousins.  I do know that William Archibold Black was in Oregon sometime by the 1890's in Goble Oregon and that he married a Bishop.  I think he may have come out with his parents and it may have been earlier then that.  I don't have solid information and have only had some stories from my Dad and uncle to go on and their parents weren't all that good at relating family history.

From an email sent by Martin McDowell [martin.mcdowell3 AT talktalk.net]

I have quite an extensive tree drawn up of the families of the 9 children that descended from Alexander Hamilton Black, or Hamilton Black as he was later known.

Here is his pedigree:

Margaret Black (1852-1909) of Lisnod m. William John McVeigh
Elizabeth McVeigh (1877-1937) of Belfast m. James McDowell
Samuel McDowell (1907-1981) of Belfast m. Annie Armstrong
Ivor McDowell of Belfast (1935-)

Welcome.

I'm a bit confused by your post. The heading shows a quote from Joel Black on March 1, 2009,  sending the pedigree to the forum but from the post heading it seems that James Robert Black posted the pedigree.

Is the pedigree for Joel Black, Jr or James Robert Black?

The last sentence in the post states that ,"I am Thomas Jefferson Black of SC"  The only Thomas Black in the pedigree was born in 1761 so I doubt that is you.

It also states that your great grandfathers, note the plural, were James Black and Robert Black. Does this mean that your paternal grandfather's mother and father both had the surname Black?

I may be missing something but the post seems to attribute itself to either Noel Black, Jr, James Robert Black or Thomas Jefferson Black. Please let me know which one you are.

I'm confused but I hope I don't sound crabby. I am very  much interested in your family line. My Black line was in Conecuh Co. Al and you seem to have fathered children in Butler Co. AL which I presume you know adjoins Conecuh. I would very much like to exchange complete pedigrees or descendant charts with you.

I use The Master Genealogist and can output reports in a variety of ways so if you are agreeable let me know which you prefer.

Thank you for posting your pedigree. I wish all people who have FTDNA testing done would do so. I can be reached at blackbob31@gmail.com.

I think the pedigree file shows me as Robert Patrick Black. My oldest known ancestor is James Preston Black, b 1825 in SC, AL or SC but as you can tell I really don't have documentation of his birth place.

Regards,

Bob Black in NE Atlanta
