Alexander Crawford paternal lineage (Haplogroup R, Lineage B)

- James Crawford b. c.1750 (?) d. (?) m. Elizabeth (?)
- James Crawford RN b. 1776 (King's Lynn, Norfolk, England) d. 1846 (Carlisle, Cumbria, England) m. Ann Tremlett

<snip>
I just put 2 and 2 together
While I was updating a tree I'm creating, I remembered "Edward James Frederick Crawford" in your post (I'd only just read it). Here's some more info
James Crawford (1743-1846) m Elizabeth Munday (1738-?), in Coltishall, Norfolk, 1763
- James Crawford (1776-1846) born in Kings Lynn
Still searching for more info on the second James

That looks a match for your info above, and I get to add more to mine.
Found through FamilySearch (Mormons, but it's a free search site)
Thanks for that - Argusy

Could someone please add this to the Patriarch page.  I have tried to do it myself, always a dead link.  I've contacted 3 different people to no avail.  It seems you used to transfer them from here...has that practice stopped?

Thanks,

Sharon

Kit number is B68372 for myself as autosomal transfer from Ancestry dot com

My mother is a Crawford, and I've recruited mom (# B10923), as well as her sister (# 386361) & brother (# 296699) to test (the latter is our project member, I manage his kit). All three took Family Finder tests, though of course those are not much use for deep connections. My uncle tested Y-67 and Big Y, and was grouped in the I1 Crawfordjohn Easter Seaton subset on the basis of the Y67 STR test. The Big Y has shown him to be in a new subgroup under I1-Z140 (see the project for that haplogroup). If any other I1 members are willing, another Big Y could really help identify exactly which of my uncle's unique markers define the subgroup (versus those from the last couple hundred years). Those unique markes are not on any of the canned tests (individual SNPs, SNP Packs, etc.) because they need to be verified via Big Y (or similar test) with others.

In the Crawford Y DNA project my uncle is # 296699. I will post our pedigree in my own name, David Nicolson (# 269981), although my uncle is the child of the most recent posted ancestor (omitting all born post-1920 as requested). A few generations were missionaries in the middle east, if you're wondering about the locations. Email address is NicolsonCrawford [at] gmail [dot] com

4G GP: John Crawford b. c1768 NY (Orange Co.?) d.1831 NY (Wash. Co.); m. c1796 a Simpson
  3G GP: James Crawford b.1897 NY (Wash. Co.) d.1865 Wash.Co.NY; m.c1826 Hannah McKnight (1805-1889)
    2G GP: John Crawford b.1827 Wash.Co.NY d.1906 Beirut; m.1857 Mary Beattie Stewart (1835-1911)
1G GP: James STEWART Crawford b.1864 Damascus, d.1939 Beirut; m.1892 Mary Rowan McCracken (1860-1942)
Grandparents: Archibald Stuart Crawford b.1899 Syria, d.1983 NJ; m.1828 Mary Elizabeth Pickard (1897-1962)

For the record, we are reasonably certain that the parents of 4G GF John Crawford are NOT John Crawford & Susannah Kelso of Pelham MA, as they do not appear to have moved to Washington County NY, AND the list of their documented children (Robert, Sarah, son, John [died young], Hannah, John, Joel, Levi, Anna, Susannah, Israel, and Margaret, per Revolutionary War lineage papers) doesn't overlap with the siblings of 4G GF John Crawford (John, Matthew, David and Barbara, per a family tree drawn by my GGF in the 1880s)... We have concluded as follows:
"It seems likely that our Crawford family settled in the Little Britain, NY area before Rev. John Crawford's grandfather [that is, the John Crawford who is recorded as having been buried in Argyle in 1831 at age 63, who married a Simpson] was born, i.e. before the Revolution. It seems unlikely that our family has anything to do with the Crawfords who lived in Massachusetts at the time of the Revolution. Until new evidence is found, we feel our knowledge of our Crawford line ends with the John Crawford who married a Simpson, his three siblings, and that further claims are in doubt."

We have several other Crawfords who are descendants from other children of my GGPs who tested (those with Y all match and are in same project group), and most have completed Family Finder tests too. And also a few who married into other surnames who also have Family Finder tests.
