We invite you to submit your "Pedigree" for the Merritt Family Project Patriarch page. (You don’t have to be a test participant to post your family pedigree.)

There are two ways to make your pedigree available to the project administrator for posting on the Patriarch Page:
1.  Send the pedigree by email directly to carrie@worldfamilies.net in the simplified form described below  (If you send it this way, your pedigree will only be posted on the Patriarch Page, and will not be included in the Pedigree Forum)
Be sure to include

                 E
mail address you wish to be posted with the pedigree
Kit number of the project participant whose pedigree this is
                 N
ame, birthdate, birthplace, spouse for each generation (direct  male line).

2.  Log-in to post your pedigree on the Pedigree Forum.  By posting your pedigree on the forum, you are making it available for the Project Administrator to post it on the Patriarch Page, along with your contact information, and kit number (or code identity number).

  1. You must be logged in to post on this forum.
How do I register to post a pedigree?
I've already registered. How do I log in?

  2.  Please include your Kit number or Code Identity number if you have been tested for the project.

  3. Please read the following instructions, then scroll down to the last posting on this forum and click "reply" in order to post your pedigree.

  4. The pedigree for a Surname Project follows your paternal line.  Please post only the information for each generation:

Full Name of Earliest Known Male Ancestor for this Surname
His birthdate
Birthplace
Spouse’s name

(If you are missing any piece of this information, post another bit of identifying information)

Suggestions for Posting your Pedigree on this forum:

o        Post four pieces of information for each ancestor

o        Begin with the earliest generation

o        Use standard abbreviations:  m=married, b=born, d=died, c=circa, Co=county, VA=Virginia, GA=Georgia, etc

o        Try to keep to one line per generation

o        Include only generations that have this family surname

o        Provide your name and email address as the pedigree provider

o        Provide the kit number and/or project code identity number if pedigree is for a tested participant

o        Use surname with each generation

o        Don’t use all caps

o        Don’t include anyone whose birthdate is after 1910, for privacy concerns.

o        Don’t number the generations

Scroll down to the last posting on this forum and click "reply". Post your pedigree in the box provided, and click "Post".

If you do not see a"reply" tab, it means you have lost your log in and will need to log in again in order to post. Go back to the project home page, log in again, and return to the pedigree forum. Login should hold the second time.

•    Moses Merritt b. 7-24-1768 in Pennsylvania. d. 8-6-1823 in Centerville,Wayne County, Indiana   6 children:
o   between 1793 and abt 1805, all documented on rootsweb.  Rebecca Merritt’s husband living as of 2004 is a descendent, and has researched this line.
•   David Lee Merritt m. Rhoda Anderson (see 4-7-1870 article in “The  Pike County Republican”)
o   Daniel Lee Merritt b. 6-15-1788 near Wheeling WV.  m. 1808 Margaret Chadd, who died “many years” prior to 1870. Daniel remained a single man after.  He mustered in the US Army for a time until the army disbanded. He was a Keel Boatman, and whip-sawed lumber for 3 years at age 18 after moving to Marietta. He built a boat, cleared land, raised corn, and traveled the river to sell it. He lived in Camp Creek as of 1870, he & John Merritt were the oldest men living there at that time. 2 children:
   Daniel Lee Merritt d. “some years” prior to 1870 in Muncie IN.
   Elizabeth Merritt m. James Starr, they lived near Camp Creek as of 1870.
•   Hezekiah Merritt b. abt 1766 d. 1-1-1859.
Hezekiah left Washington County PA in 1795 with Rachel Anderson and the 5 children living at that time to go to Manchester, OH His move to Bond County, Illinois was in the 1840's. He was buried in the Merritt Cemetery in Camp Creek. His stone shows he died Jan 1, 1859, age 91. His & his son's last name is spelled Merret in the cemetery, but grandchildren were spelled Merritt.    “his will named following children...John, Edward, Anderson, Hezekiah, Elizabeth Glaze, Ruth Glaze, Fannie Goodin, Rebecca Delay, Daniel,  Moses, and by the last wife Matilda b 1830”

B. abt. 1766 in New Jersey D. 1-1-1859
M. abt 1785 to Rachael Anderson in PA b: 1765 d. 6-1-1826 buried in Camp Creek Cemetery
M. 4-13-1828 in Pike County O. to Margaret Clay Groves Merritt (see 1860 Census). She died 5-4-1874, buried in Howard Cemetery.  There were 2 children with Margaret, and 11 with Rachel Anderson (1 of which died).  Margaret had at least one son prior to her marriage to Hezekiah, named Washington Clay.           .  A branch of the family line (Rosemary’ Sanborn's) will be carried through Moses and his son Milton Merritt. Another branch of the family line is carried through Moses’ sister Fanny Merritt & her husband Thomas T. Goodin, and 8 generations are documented as of 2004 through John Merritt & his daughter Louisa Frances Merritt.

Hello - I came across this post after Googling the names "Daniel Lee" and "Margaret Chadd" - a couple I believe to be my 5th great-grandparents. HOWEVER, I am now thoroughly confused because I'd been under the assumption that the last name was "Lee" - according to all family information, but I read on your post that it is Merritt?? Did they change their last name at some point in time? They show on census records as "Lee" - can you help me out? This totally changes my research but would explain why I've had a difficult time tracing them farther back.
Thanks, C. Kelber
