This is a pedigree of a different type.

My paper trail leads to Job Tyler of Andover, MA, but results do not match other descendants of Job. So the only place to start is by seeking other descendants of Job Tyler that descend from any of the individuals listed below.  Due to a slim paper trail in some generations, I think the break occurs somewhere around generation 4, 5, or 6 (which is why they are marked with a question mark).  Data in the Tyler genealogy was very sketchy on this line and contained many innacuracies. This could mean that either I descend from a different Tyler, or one of my ancestors was adopted, or some other non-paternity event.

If anyone connects with any of the following Tyler ancestors, and has not yet been tested, I'd appreciate your help with figuring out this puzzle!

1.   Job Tyler b 1619 England = Mary ____
2.   Moses Tyler b 1642 Andover, MA = Prudence Blake
3.   Captain John Tyler b 1669 Roxbury, MA = Anne Messenger
4.   ?? Deacon John Tyler b 1696 Charlestown, MA = Sarah Barron
5.   ?? John Tyler b ca 1728 Tolland, CT? = Thankful Williams (most likely generation for break)
6.   ?? John Tyler Jr. b 1780 Tolland, CT = Almira Baker
7.   Nathan H. Tyler b 1824, Tolland, CT = Lomira Hunn
8.   Olin H. Tyler b 1873 Somers, CT = Anna Blanche Schmidt
9.   Henry A. Tyler b 1901 Hartford, CT = Sophie C. Saidak

Why questionable:

Generation 4: John Tyler Born in Charlestown in 1696, supposedly son of Captain John Tyler and Anne Messenger. But the Tyler Genealogy also states in the introduction that there was another John Tyler of Charlestown, MA who had a son John in 1696 that so far have no traced descendants. Perhaps a possibility that the "unknown" John is my John.

Generation 5:  John Tyler Born in Tolland, CT ca 1728 (his headstone says he died in 1780 at the age of 52). There are NO OTHER Tylers buried in the cemetery, and those that the Tyler Genealogy said were his sisters are found in another cemetery. His birth record has not been found in Tolland, yet those of his supposed siblings have been found. In addition I am having great difficulty finding the parents of his wife, Thankful Williams, after 30 years of research. They were married in 1773, so if he was born in 1728 it could have been his second marriage. No record of a first marriage has been found. Thankful's birth is estimated between 1735 and 1750, not known if Williams was a maiden or married name. Every Thankful Williams prospect has been scrutinized, and all proven not to be her. The difficulties in finding this family lead me to believe that there might be a reason ... that perhaps he was adopted or some other non-paternity event, or that he has been incorrectly placed as a descendant of Job Tyler and descends from another Tyler entirely. Marriages of two of his daughters have been found, and both daughters had a son who they named after their father ... John Tyler, followed by the surname.

Generation 6: John Tyler was born three months after the death of his father, who appears to have been ill for at least 3 months before his death. John Tyler (#5) died in May 1780, and his sister Sarah Tyler Olcott died a few months before that, in Stafford, "while caring for her brother John" according to the Tyler genealogy. His wife Thankful may not have been caring for him during her pregnancy to protect the child (and also her three other daughters who were under 7 years old at the time).  Shortly after her husband's death, Thankful made Ichabod Hinckley the guardian of her children.  The 1790 Census shows Thankful living in Tolland with her three daughters, but her son is not enumerated with her (odd). I'm thinking that he may have elected to stay with Ichabod Hinckley, because he purchased land from him when he came of age to raise his family. It seems that John Tyler remained living near the Hinckley family for his entire life. (Our DNA does not match Hinckleys either). It is possible that Thankful could be a relative of the Hinckleys, though, because they were from Barnstable, MA, and the name "Thankful" appears in SEVERAL families from that area.

Thankful and her daughters seem to have removed to Warren, MA because "Thankful Tyler of Tollon" married Captain Joseph Cutler there in 1793. Her daughters married and settled in other New England states, but it appears that her son John Tyler (my ancestor) remained in Tolland.

Thankful (Williams Tyler) Cutler did eventually return to Tolland later on, and died there in 1829.
