Great-grandfather

My Great-Grandfather. AUGUST BERGMAN was born on in Gotenburg on 11 Jan 1864 son of Johnathan and Sofia Bergman (this is according to the information given on his application for British citzenship). On his marriage certificate 3 May 1890 (in the UK) his father's  name is spelled as JOHN, a sawyer. From what I have been told is that he was born in Sweden but brought up in Norway.

August died on 15 August 1926 in South Shields, England

I have been unable to trace his birth or the marriage of his parents on the websites that is known to me.

Any information would be gratefully received or advise me of the websites that I can search.
