I just joined the forum and notice the few posts are from 2009. Hopefully we can breath life into this forum as I have much to share with my Clan Dunbar mates. I am a Robert Dunbar of Hingham Massachusetts descendant. Robert was captured at the Battle of Dunbar on 3 September 1650 by Cromwell's army. He was marched south the Durham Cathedral and miraculously survived the march and confinement. He was shipped to the colonies (Boston area) as and indentured servant. His ancestors are unknown in Scotland.
I am a member of a Yahoo group dedicated to Scottish prisoners of this war who were sent to the colonies in 1650 and 1651. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/scottish_war_prisoners/info
There is an associated blog with a lot of information of interest http://scottishprisonersofwar.com/
Even if you are not of the same Dunbar line as the Robert of Hingham descendants, you will find it very interesting. There is a DNA project dedicated to the prisoners group. With Debra's work on the DunbarDNA project, the Scot Prisoner of Wars Project, and some larger haplogroup projects I feel that we will surely bridge the gap from post to pre Battle of Dunbar for my line. If you are a Robert of Hingham descendant and have DNA results, please join the SPOW DNA project as well. https://www.familytreedna.com/public/ScottishPoWs/
Feel free to contact me with any questions and I look forward to some active discussion here.
