We invite you to submit your "Pedigree" for this Surname.   Our Surname Project is primarily interested in your Paternal line, as surnames are passed down from father to son, just as the yDNA is passed down.

If you ARE A MEMBER of this Surname Project at Family Tree DNA, send your pedigree by email to WorldFamilies.net at carrie@worldfamilies.net.  The pedigree will then be posted on the Surname Project's Patriarchs Page by Worldfamilies.net or sent to the Project’s Administrator.

Please include the following:  (If you have more information you would like to share, you may also post a more extended version of your family pedigree on the project website’s Pedigree Forum below)
•       Name of project
•       Kit Number
•       Name of person posting pedigree
•       Email address to be posted with pedigree
•       Name, birthdate, birthplace, spouse of Earliest Known Ancestor
•       List each succeeding generation, using only those four items of information (or substitute another item of information if missing an item)

If you are NOT A MEMBER of this Surname Project at Family Tree DNA, you are welcome to post your pedigree on the Pedigree Forum below.  We hope an interested researcher will see it and contact you to share information.

To post on this Pedigree Forum:
1.  Register and log in at www.worldfamilies.net.
(How do I register to post a pedigree? Click here http://www.worldfamilies.net/register)
(I've already registered. How do I log in? Click here http://www.worldfamilies.net/alreadyregistered)
2.  When you have logged in, scroll to the last posting on this forum, click "reply" and post your pedigree.

My name is Robert Allan Hinton.  My earliest ancestor in North America is George Henton, of Philadelphia and Berks Counties, Pennsylvania.

My lineage is:  George Henton (Persis Boone)/William Henton (Mary Jones)/ Peter Henton (Mary PollyScothorn)/ David Hinton (Anna Barbary Maddy)/ James David Hinton (Nancy Agnes Milburn)/ William Gardner Hinton (Jessie Riggs Affleck)/ Bruce Affleck Hinton (Marjorie Marcelle Forney)/ Robert Allan Hinton (Melissa Holder).  I have an extensive family file posted at Rootsweb.com (2800 citations).

I am seeking other people with the Hinton or Henton family surname, who are interested in participation in a Y-DNA Family History Project.  Write:  RobertHinton@Hinton.net

Hi, Robert.  Thank you for your interest in the Hinton surname project.  If you have any dates that you would like to provide for your pedigree, I would be happy to post it on the patriarch page for you.  We hope you will join the DNA project if you haven't already!  Good luck with your research!

My name is Melissa Melanson formerly Hinton. I had my father's DNA tested about 5 years ago. He is listed in the HINTON DNA project as the ID H-2 or as MA Hinton Melanson.

Melissa Hinton Melanson 1972
Simmie Hinton 1931
Louis McKinley Hinton 1902 and Gracie Hinton 1908 (1st cousins)
Ira Ellis Hinton and Addie Woodard, 1870's and Louise McKenzie and John Felton Hinton, 1870's
the two men above were brother's and their parents were George Hinton and Martha Hollomon
George's mother is Rachael Hinton who we believe based on family stories and a slave narrative from Dora Jackson who was one of her children that Rachael's slave master was Sidney Bud Hinton. His father was Jesse Hinton. They were born in NC and moved to Perry County MS which is where my father's family is from.
Jesse's father is supposedly Aaron Hinton and his father is James Hinton which leads back to the 3 brother's who came here from England. Now, based on the fact that my father's DNA tends to match other Hinton's specifically caucasian Hinton's I believe that Sidney Bud Hinton was the father of George but I don't have any proof as of yet.

Any info would be helpful or if you are a match. ?? I would love to chat. I noticed hat the person with the ID H-4 is a great match to my father. I would love to chat. my direct email is mel126@mac.com

My grandmother was Adeline Frierson
Her mother was Mary Ann Goodloe
Her mother was Alice Goodloe (married a cousin)
Her mother was Mary James
Her mother was Alice Hinton  1759-1835) Wilmington, N.C.
Her mother was Grizelle Kimbrough who was married to John Hinton of Raleigh, N.C.

Is this correct?  My mtdna is already at FamilyHistorydna

The story of my line follows. I believe that my father's grandmother, a slave, had children with her slavemaster. Therefore, I believe this is his line. This is based on family stories as well as a slave narrative that is posted on ancestry.com. I will add it here as well.

My paternal line runs as follows:
James Hinton, Sr. born c1670 Wiltshire, England
Aaron Hinton born 1745 Franklin, New Hanover, NC
Jesse Hinton born 1761 Newbern, Johnston Co, NC
Sidney Bud Hinton b. 1798 Johnston Co, NC supposedly had children with Rachel Hinton (african american)
George Hinton b. 1837 Richton, perry co, MS (mulatto)

This is part of the slave narrative that I was referring to.

 I wuz bawn in Richton, Miss., in 1858. My father's name wuz George Hinton;
   my mothers name wuz
Marthy Hinton. Both my parents wuz raised up in slavery. My
mother's old masta wuz Col. Holloman---but
my father's folks all b'longed to Mr. Bud Hinton. My father's
mother wuz Rachel Hinton. Dey bought her in
Virginia when she wuz seven year old and brought her to
Richton, Miss. She wuz raised up for a cook.

Their son, Thomas Yarnall Henton/Hinton, born 11 January 1818, Henton farm, Versailles, Woodford County, Kentucky; died 24 March 1851; married Margaret Spotts, 1839 in Saline County, Missouri.
