We invite you to submit your "Pedigree" for this Surname.   Our Surname Project is primarily interested in your Paternal line, as surnames are passed down from father to son, just as the yDNA is passed down.

If you ARE A MEMBER of this Surname Project at Family Tree DNA, send your pedigree by email to WorldFamilies.net at carrie@worldfamilies.net.  The pedigree will then be posted on the Surname Project's Patriarchs Page by Worldfamilies.net or sent to the Project’s Administrator.

Please include the following:  (If you have more information you would like to share, you may also post a more extended version of your family pedigree on the project website’s Pedigree Forum below)
•       Name of project
•       Kit Number
•       Name of person posting pedigree
•       Email address to be posted with pedigree
•       Name, birthdate, birthplace, spouse of Earliest Known Ancestor
•       List each succeeding generation, using only those four items of information (or substitute another item of information if missing an item)

If you are NOT A MEMBER of this Surname Project at Family Tree DNA, you are welcome to post your pedigree on the Pedigree Forum below.  We hope an interested researcher will see it and contact you to share information.

I'm sure there is an answer to my dilemma somewhere on this website, but please humor an old man and help.

I recently had a y-DNA test done, as did one of my distant cousins (ID 6JKHE).  We have documentary proof of our relationship, with our common ancestor being John1  Hollis b. 1736 (see pedigree above).  I am seventh generation of descent, son of Darwin6 Hollis, and my cousin is, I believe, sixth generation, descended from a brother of Jesse2.

From what little I understand about y-DNA, should our results not be identical or very nearly so?  They are not.  At 390, I show a 24, and my cousin a 25.  At 388, I show a 13, and he a 10.

Can you tell my what the reason might be for the discrepancy?  Thank you very much,

Bob Hollis

Carrie, I need help on the possible connection of the HOLLIS Family to the CHARLES and MARY WRIGHT family of Davidson Co., TN.  Charles and Mary were from North Carolina, perhaps Lincoln Co., before settling in Davidson Co., TN, where he made his will in Dec 1825 and where it was probated in Dec 1826. He and Mary (called POLLY in the will) had seven children listed as secondary heirs: Polly HOPE, James Wright, Charles Wright, Rebecca COOK, Jane HAGAR, HOLLIS WRIGHT, and Elizabeth Umphries (Humphreys).

As his principal heirs he named his wife and JAMES HOLLIS HAGAR WRIGHT. This man was probably a young grandson who lived with the grandparents to care for them in their last days and thus received the bulk of the estate.

Each of the seven children of Charles and Mary and their descendants used the HOLLIS name as a given name for their sons.

I have been researching this family for 50 years and still cannot find the missing link.

Robert Powell Carver, son of
Jonas Jackson Carver and Emma Ruth Allen, son of
Talley Guill Carver and Ranie Catherine Goodman, daughter of
Robert Jackson Goodman and Permelia Caroline Crudup, daughter of
Josiah Crudup (IV) and Louisa Jane Wright, daughter of
Charles Wright and Mary Ann Hessey, son of
HOLLIS WRIGHT and Sarah Humphreys, son of
CHARLES WRIGHT (d.1826) and MARY

I have two questions to ask:  Does anyone know what lineage Captain James Hollis belongs to and how do you interpret the results of Captain James Hollis DNA results?  I have to point out that there is Native American ancestry on the one of the female lines found in the Tennessee Hollis lineage, which is in my direct lineage.  I have been doing research on my mom's ancestry and my common ancestor is Captain James Hollis who was born in 1727 and died in 1794 in Tennessee.  I found the Hollis surname project and that is how I saw the results for Captain James Hollis.

Not sure if there's much point in this as there seems to be zero activity and my Y-results haven't been added. Anyhow, for what it's worth...

  Samuel Hollis b. 1795 Loppington Shropshire England, d. 1853 London, m. Ann James 1852
