We invite you to submit your "Pedigree" for this Surname.   Our Surname Project is primarily interested in your Paternal line, as surnames are passed down from father to son, just as the yDNA is passed down.

If you ARE A MEMBER of this Surname Project at Family Tree DNA, send your pedigree by email to WorldFamilies.net at mari@worldfamilies.net.  The pedigree will then be posted on the Surname Project's Patriarchs Page by Worldfamilies.net or sent to the Project’s Administrator.

•       Kit Number

•       List each succeeding generation, using only those four items of information (or substitute another item of information if missing an item)

 (If you have more information you would like to share, you may also post a more extended version of your family pedigree on the project website’s Pedigree Forum below)

My name is Oscar Leal and I live in the Netherlands.? My father migrated from Colombia to the Netherlands in the mid sixties.? My paternal ancestors are believed to have migrated from Spain to Colombia.? When and from what part of Spain they came is unknown to me at this time.? I am listing my known (limited) paternal ancestry below.

Of course, I am very much interested in finding (distant) relatives.? My DNA has been tested with Family Tree DNA (12 marker test) and I am currently awaiting the update to the 37 marker test.? My haplogroup is J2.? My results are also posted on www.ysearch.org.

There are various indications that my paternal ancestors were of Sephardic Jewish origin (www.sephardim.com).? I find this very interesting.? One of the reasons for doing the DNA test has been to find further indications that the claim is true.

My paternal ancestry line starting with my grandfather;

I.   Eudoro Leal Garcia, born 27 June 1909 in Bogot?, Colombia, died August 1996 in Bogot?, Colombia, son of;
II.   Eudoro Leal Gruevara, born 2 July 1886 in Chuachi, Colombia, died ?. in ?., son of;
III.   Cenon Leal Pardo, born ?. in Ubague, Colombia, died ?. in ?. son of;
IV.   Cruz Leal ?

Cruz Leal may be the first Leal in my line which came to Colombia from Spain, but I have found any definite proof that he indeed is.

In  my line the Leal and Leon surnames were interchanged within the same family.

Capitan Aloso de Leon was part of an expendition through Texas in the 1600s to document condiitons, and founded the city of Cadereyta, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
One of his sons (a distant uncle to me) General Alonso de Leon, headed up the expendition encharged with finding LaSalle and the French colony in Texas. I am a descendat of his brother (full brother), Antonio Leal de Leon. I believe he is the Leal that all other Leals in the state of Nuevo Leon, Mexico are descendants. There was quite a bit of inter-family marriage and have Leal several times in my line. Unfortunately, my direct paternal line ends with
Jose Ma Leal, Married to Trenidad Trevino, parents of
Guadalupe Leal, born circa 1792, married to Ma Guadalupe Gonzales, born circa 1803, parents of
Sabas Leal, Born December 6, 1837 and married to Dolores Quntinilla (her mother was Paula Leal and I can trace her to Cap. Alonso de Leon), parents of
Jesus Leal, born circa 1857, and married to Ma Leonides Gracia, born August 8, 1858, parents of
Ambrosio Leal, born 1887, and married to Juana Tijerina, parents of
Ambrosio Leal, born 1926, and married to Elvira Garza, parents of
David J. Leal (me)

From my father, Ambrosio Leal back, all were from the state of Nuevo Leon and the towns of Cadereyta, China, General Bravo, Los Ramones.

I have a book somewhere that outlines the genealogies of the founding families of Cadereyta, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. I will double check to make sure Antonio Leal is the son that is my ancestor. The book also give the names of Capt. Alonso Leal's parents and I believe their home town in Spain.

Through family tree DNA, I have ordered a 37 marker test. I have received the 12 and the 25 maker test and are posted.

I will provide more information later.

Hi, David.  Thanks for posting the information on your family.  If you will post it in the standard form we use for the Patriarch page, I will post it there for you.  Thanks.
