I belong to the Genome Haplogroup J(12f2.1) as well as 10% of the males in Southern Spain. My ancestors came over on the Coronado Expedition and settled in what is now New Mexico, and were recipients of one of the land grants. My grandfather, Rosario Lopez was born in Alamos, Sonora, Mexico. His mother's surname was Gamez. When he left Mexico during the Mexican Revolution around 1910, he went by Rosario Gamez Lopez. In Alamos, the Lopez family was a prominent family, well-off, and respected.

My mother's maiden name was Aida Lopez de Gonzales. She was born in Tucson, Arizona, June 11, 1913.

Although we keep in contact with several cousins in the area, I know very little about the Lopez family. Maybe someone knows something I don't know.

Hi, I'm Nancy López and my genealogy can be found at: http://cybergata.com/roots/   I also just joined your Lopez DNA group. My nephew, Mark Carlos López's DNA came out "U" which is different from most New Mexican DNA.    I have a long linage in New Mexico ancestry on my father's side of my ancestry, and a long linage of New England ancestry on my maternal grandmother's side.

I am just starting to Trace my ancestors
My father  was Samuel Vidal Lopez he was born on 6/29/1906 in Hermosillo, Senora, Mexico. He died on 12/09/1970 in Pomona, CA. He married Santos "Juana" Cuellar
My Grandfather was Luis Lopez and My Grandmother was Elosia Vidal. The Courthouse in Hermosillo that had the records burnt down so I can't get any records of my fathers family.
