My great, great, great grandmother was Catherine Frampton (nee Perry) and had 7 children (including my great, great grandmother).
In the Parish Register for 2 of the children's births her name is given as Keturah Framptom - these births occurred in 1831 and 1835. For the other 5 births, plus her own birth, marriage and death her name is correctly recorded in the relevant Parish Registers as 'Catherine'.
Is Keturah an alternative name for Catherine, or could there be another explanation?
Ken.

Here you go Ken. Abraham's 2nd wife.

One of those hardcore Puritan-style Bible names, I suppose, that never caught on properly.
I've had no end of trouble with 'em, particularly when the parish clerk/census enumerator's handwriting was very florid, or his grasp of spelling primitive.
"Lessee now ... is that "Susannah"? Or "Laruhamah"? " (apparently in the running for a cool girls' name, back in ye olden dayes).
