Hello,

I am new to this project.  I understand that this haplogroup is supposed to have originated in Armenia.  My earliest known male-line ancestor was born in Armenia in about 1580 AD (and died in Persia).  His first name was Zohrab, and his clan name was Manuchariants.  No surname, as such, I think.

So I suppose that we were the ones who stayed behind, while your ancestors went and colonised Europe?

zohrab, click on the link above if you haven't already seen the front page, there is a whole area, the South Baltic region, that is being explored.  Welcome.

MCloyd, there must be some misunderstanding.  I was invited to join this project because of my Y-DNA haplogroup -- not because I am connected to the South Baltic.

The Home Page states that this (sub-)haplogroup originated around Armenia, not in the South Baltic.  Some of your ancestors may have lived in the South Baltic, but it appears that none of my male-line ancestors did, because they stayed in Armenia, while maybe your ancestors went to Europe, including the South Baltic.

Hi Zorab & Mcloyd

As Zorab as said the current thinking is that L11*P310* first appeared around the area of Armenia some estimated 4500 to 6000 years ago - I have also seen a website (lol) claim that is came from an area midway between Moscow & St Petersburg on the Baltic coast - but no sources and I have no proof of that myself

R-M269 seems native to Ural or Altaï, it is possible that his mutations use several different roads.

Zohrab,
This may be of interest to you.  Search for all information about the Varangian Guard covering 1066- and later.  In approx 1072 it is said that a ship of approximately 4300 Danish & Anglo Saxon nobles & warriors fled England after William the conqueror sacked the north on England (that began in 1069).

There is a real possibility your origins could be from that event. But this is just one line to investigate. It also is a possible explanation for how L11* (P311* too? - are you P311 as well ?) may have migrated back to the area of Armenia from Western Europe.  DSM
