Hi again :)

My brother has had the Geno 2 test done and the FT DNA autosomal test and we have the results.

However, it was not my brother who had this J-M241 Y-DNA test done. It was my great uncle's son ~ so that I could get the Y-DNA result for my grandfather's male line.

Presumably something of this grandfather's DNA should be reflected also in my brother's DNA. Is there anything I should look for ~ or is it pointless?

Thanks :)

On FT DNA it says that these SNP tests are available to me:

J-L283
J-Z590
J-Z1043
J-L485

I'm not sure if it is worth following up on one of these or not.
Any thoughts, please?

Thanks :)

Hampton is put in the J2b Project: J2b Z1827>M241>?. Difficult to say which will be his final SNP.
The administrators suggest these SNPs for the probable subclade:
J2b Z1827>M241>L283>Z590? please test Z590>Z584>Z638>Z1296; BigY helpful for 67+ marker kits
These is yours:
J-L283
J-Z590
J-Z1043
J-L485
Very likely this is the subclade, but to test one SNP step by step is useless. Better a Big Y or Y Prime etc., but the best choice I think is to wait and not spending money.

Hi again :)

An update on my J2b2 relative ...

I have had the Family Finder test done on this DNA and the Ethnic Origins page gives:

British Isles: 97%
Scandinavia: 3%

This surprised me. Since J2b2 is of Balkan origin.
Why did this not show up as Eastern Europe or Asia Minor, I wonder ???

Because  J2b2 doesn't come from the Balkans but from nearby the Caucasus

J-M241 Z2390/CTS4412 * Z605 * M241... 41 SNPs formed 13400 ybp, TMRCA 9100 ybp

and expanded eastward

J-Z2432 Z8266 * Z8270 * Z2444... 26 SNPsformed 9100 ybp, TMRCA 7100 ybp
    J-Z2432*
        id:HG04210 STU

and westward

J-L283 Z2512/CTS5382 * Z612 * Y1279/Z8411... 60 SNPsformed 9100 ybp, TMRCA 8900 ybp

from 13400 years ago and there is no trace of that origin now.
There are subclades in Tuscany probably from those times:

J-Z2453CTS8204 * CTS11996 * CTS12080... 16 SNPs
    id:NA20588 TSI

Oh, I see. Thank you. I am a bit confused now, though, because you said before:

This haplogroup is in Western Europe from many thousands of years and probably arrived in the Isles just from Italy or anyway from the Balkans.

And I have been told by others that this could go back to Illyrian troops in the Roman army being posted to Britain when it was ruled by the Roman Empire - perhaps even in 'Roman Worcester'.

Do you have any other suggestions, please?
