Now here's another question: what's the typical turn-around time for 111-marker upgrade results?
Might depend on the starting point, I think 37 to 111 is actually run on two separate chips; but anyway I checked and my "Yrefine67to111" was ordered May 7, batched May 9 and completed June 9 (2012). As someone else has reported, the "panels" are reported as they come in, and there was one panel that took over a week longer than the others.

Well, with the looming fiscal cliff and the fact I bought at least 16 out of the additional markers that would be tested, it seems I am better off investing elsewhere instead of having a repeat of STRs already tested for. I just wished the results would post on the SRY2627 project page because it only shows 67 markers, though I have tested for more.

Well, I've gone over the dna cliff already. Better to spend some dollars while they're worth something, I guess. ;-)

Now here's another question: what's the typical turn-around time for 111-marker upgrade results?
I've gotten used to fast SNP test times, but I seem to recall that str results are slower.
My time was about one month but the was one subpanel that was the slowest all by itself for a week longer.
Y-Refine67to111 (Introductory)
5/12/2011 Completed 408
4/13/2011 In Progress 408
4/13/2011 Batched 408
4/7/2011 Ordered 408
MJost
"Snap!" ... me too:
5/12/2011 Completed 408
4/13/2011 In Progress 408
and yes one sub-panel (86 - 93?) took ages.

Unfortunately, you may be right, but they can't take your knowledge of your Y STRs and your ancestry away from you.
We've had some more orders for 111 STRs coming in this morning. I can find 1700 111 STR deep claded confirmed R1b-P312 haplotypes in public projects. That's not including the recent rush of orders. I think we'll have doubled that by this time next year, or sooner.
Sorting out the Y SNPs from Geno 2.0 is taking some time and we probably already need a Geno 2.1 and some more Walk The Y testing. That's all good, but your Y STRs will always be useful. Bennett Greenspan likens them to the leaves on a tree with the twigs being the lower level almost private SNPs.
I think the 111 STRs will allow us to see the veins in those leaves much better as well as help for more efficient SNP testing, TMRCA estimates, etc.

We have gotten a lot of 111-marker upgrades over the course of the holiday sale; more have come in today.
I'm glad I did it. I think only one other member of my cluster has ordered the upgrade to 111 markers: Self, kit 53479. I think he just has one panel left to go. He and I aren't all that close at 67 markers, though (12 off, if I recall correctly).

Is that according to the recently revised GD algorithm?

Okay I took up the sale offer for the upgrade to 111 markers. This is in hopes should they really find King Tut's DNA is associated with SRY2627, that perhaps I might be a good candidate for direct ancestry; yeah, not even close according to YSearch. Okay, 111 markers should be good to establish a positive surname connection, etc. That is good enough for me for a long while. Now, bring in the folds of new participants!!!!!!

Yeah, 111 STRs is pretty high resolution. This level of testing should be good for quite some time from now.

Ysearch still shows Self (54XP8) and me (HX9ZF) at a gd of 12 apart.
I haven't heard of any revised genetic distance algorithm.

Reason I asked is that FTDNA took its site down on December 12 for, among other things: "Y-DNA STR upgrade to support infinite alleles, microalleles (infrastructure only, data coming soon) and palindromic regions (infrastructure only, calculation coming soon) for step-wise matching"
As a result of that they changed the way that GD is calculated, and the subsequent calculation was (as usual for them) riddled with bugs. It has just recently been fixed.
AFAIK, Ysearch has not yet been brought into line with the GD changes.

Ah.
Self doesn't show up among the matches on my "myFTDNA" pages beyond 12 markers, where he matches me exactly.

I'm in Batch 497 for the 111-marker upgrade, with results due 18 February 2013.
Hopefully, they'll come in earlier than that.

Okay, before the big holiday sale ends on Monday at midnight Houston, Texas, time (2300 my time), tell me why I should order the upgrade from 67 to 111 markers.
I've had 67 markers since - when? - 2006 or 2007, I think. I'm glad I went to 67 when I did, because it's made a big difference.
I went from a GD (excluding Assyrians) with a man from Wales (my best match on FTDNA) of 30 to a GD of 57, with the extra 40+ markers.
Edit: I am G1, by the way.

Okay. I did it.
Strike while the iron is hot, as they say . . . or while the sale is still on.
Look forward to hearing about your results.

Here's something weird. My haplotype is showing up with five of the 111-marker upgrade values already. Is this a glitch? Two of them, 461 and 462, where I have 12 and 11 respectively, I can account for, since I ordered those markers a la carte back in 2007. But I don't know how the other three are showing up. They are
463=24, 635=23, and 643=10
.
My order was just batched yesterday, so how do I have three brand new marker values already?

All part of the same test panel. The whole panel was tested when you order two YSTRs from that panel, but you only got the results for the ones you paid for.

Some of my 111-marker upgrade started rolling in late last night/early this morning. What's weird is that, according to what shows in my projects, all of my new markers are in except 717, 638, and 715. But according to my "myFTDNA" pages "Standard Y-STR Values" page, I only got two panels this morning, and I still have markers 68-85 and 94-102 to go.
Has that kind of thing - a difference between what shows on your myFTDNA pages and what shows in your projects - happened to any of you before?
