Thinking of Going Alphanumeric. What Do You Think?

I have been thinking lately of listing the major DF13+ branch SNP categories in the R-L21 Plus Project in alphanumeric order instead of their present order. It would make it easier for people to find their entries. I think I based the present order on the ISOGG R Tree listing.

I would leave the first few categories where they are, like the one for the L21+ guys who still need a DF13 test, etc. I would just reorder the categories for the DF13+ "Big Six" branches. The subcategories for the Big Six branches would go with their respective "daddies", naturally.

So, what do you think? Alphanumeric order or leave things the way they are?

You left out L96 which needs to be included, since it is one of the 10 DF13 subclades. Probably just an oversight. I have no problem with this, and am more than happy to see you still include L583 as a subclade of DF13, albeit not an officially recognized one.

Yeah, I caught my mistake. I forgot L96 I guess because there is still only one guy in that category. I'm wondering why it's not considered private. Maybe it is?

No. There is still FTDNA Kit #34465 Aaron Brock Cheif Red Bird, Clay County, Kentucky that is also L96+. We talked about that last year in the R-L21 France thread.

I agree. I think you almost are forced into going to the alphanumeric prefixes to control the sequence.  

I think the sequence above is fine, but I wouldn't worry too much about the strictly following the SNP label sorting too much. It's inevitable that a new SNP will intervene somehow and supplant another.

I could also see the possibility of L513's "other" label, DF1, being used. I know that some there was some talk some time ago about this and I don't know how Spencer Wells will handle it. What did the citizen-scientists call it?... let me check. They used DF1.  I told FTDNA if they would change it they should update everyone's SNP results to convert L513 to DF1.  I suspect they may just leave it at L513. I guess that would one suggestion I'd have - to put "(DF1)" or something like that along side L513 for clarity for those who have tested for that instead of L513.

That reminds me. I better go check Semgarl to see if they picked up any DF1+'s anywhere.

That would be fine with me. I kind of wish we had some sort of deliberative and authoritative scientific body that would decide nomenclature questions, so that we could all be on the same page with regard to the names of SNPs and the haplogroups, etc.

On the other hand, the libertarian in me likes the messiness of freedom. ;-)

I went ahead and made the changes. I tried it a couple of different ways. I'm not sure I like it. I may switch back in a day or two to ISOGG order. I kept L513 as L513, since from what I could see most of the L513 guys don't have a DF1 result, and that could be confusing.

The entire first page of y-dna results, and much of the second, is taken up with the category for L21+ guys who need to test for DF13. That hasn't changed.
