Interesting. Not too long ago, I read David Hackett Fisher's book, Albion's Seed. In it, he mentions that most of the New England Puritans came from SE England, especially East Anglia. Given that that region of England was heavily settled by Anglo-Saxons and then was part of the Danelaw, an I1 result is not surprising.
My own Washburn line (through a paternal 2nd great grandmother) is of New England Puritan stock, and its males are y-dna I1, as well (I started a thread about that here in the I and Subclades forum sometime back).
