Hi Roberta,

L48 is a part of R1b-U106. From where does your family hail?

I am assuming your ancestor is ultimately from Great Britain, like a number of us! L48 is common in Britain, as well as around Europe, especially in the northwest.

How many markers did you test, Roberta? Did you just go for the standard 12 or higher?

Note you omitted the crucial R before R1b1b2a1a4.
Easy to make an error, but it's crucial.

I am L-48 an my family in  early 1700s cames from the Rhine valley in Hesse and Baden. The surname and location is is Helmenthal.  There was also a place called Helmenthal near Baden by Vienna, Austria in 1867 but it is not found on any gazetter today.
Would the L-48 bunch be Celtic Franks?

L48 does not appear to be associated with Celts but rather with Germanics.
