Hi, I am doing genealogy and have gotten a copy of the results my mother's brother had done on his Y-chromosome.  But the results and information in his paperwork don't seem to have as much information as you all seem to have, so I don't know how to determine ancestry.

This is what I have:
Haplogroup R1b (M343)
393     13
19       14
391     11
439     11
389-1  13
389-2  15
388     12
390     23
426     12
385a   11
385b   14
392     13

It says the haplogroup R1b carry the following chromosome markers:
M168>M89>M9>M45>M207>m173>M343

That's it.  Can anyone help me understand where I go with this information and how to use it to determine ancestry?  Thank you.

Haplogroups and probabilities are as follows:
R1b-Frisian4 =>67%  R1b-Frisian3 =>21%  R1b-Frisian =>4%  R1b-S21* =>4%  R1b-IrishIII =>2%

Frisian isn't my thing, but I think it's basically a common signature of southeast England and the nearby mainland coast.

In terms of more recent genealogy, you would need many more markers to have any hope of identifying family lines or cousins.

Please look at the surname projects for your name and/or variants and then request to join to see where you fit in best.

Given you are in the very numerous R1b group, please consider upgrading (refiniing) to 67 Short Tandem Repeats (STRs) and adding your information to Ysearch.  We'd have a good chance of finding good matches at 67 STR markers and should consider deep clade testing for Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs.)
