SON
JAMES CULLY BORN 1822 & HIS WIFE ANN NEE PALMER LIVED IN A BIG HOUSE FACING THE BEACH AT PORTAVOGIE.

SAMUEL MAHOOD, CARPENTER, & HIS WIFE ELLEN NEE PALMER  BUILT ANOTHER HOUSE & BOAT YARD ALMOST BESIDE IT, ON THE NOW SPRINGFIELD ROAD. HOUSE STILL STANDING.

THIS CULLY HOUSE HAS NOW BEEN BOUGHT AND BECOME PART OF THE FORMER FISH PROCESSING FACTORY ON SPRINGFIELD ROAD. THE LAST FAMILY TO LIVE IN IT WERE THE McCORMICKS, BUT BY THEN THE HOUSE HAD BEEN DIVED INTO TWO.
THE OTHER HALF WAS INCORPORATED INTO THE FIRST "KIPPERING" HOUSE. THIS WAS WHERE THEY SMOKED THE HERRINGS. THE CARTS WOULD LINE UP ON THE BEACH EITHER SELLING THE HERRINGS OR BUYING THE FINISHED PRODUCT; THE KIPPERS. I HAVE SEEN AN OLD PHOTO OF THAT EVENT. THIS WOULD SUIT THE NOBBY FISHING BOATS THAT TIED UP AT McCAMMON ROCKS BEFORE THE HARBOUR WAS BUILT.
