JAMES GLOVER SON OF JOHN GLOVER & RUTH WALKER WAS A TEACHER AT BALLYEABOROUGH SCHOOL WHICH IS NOW A PRIVATE HOUSE.

James spent his early boyhood at the home of his grandmother, Ballycloughan near Saintfield, attending the 1st Saintfield Church and Sabbath School.

Returning to Comber, he walked daily to and from the Model School, Newtownards to save money for to buy books.

At the early age of 19 years, he was appointed assistant in Ballyeasboro School, Kircubbin, then under Mr Frame, the present principal’s father. Whilst there, he married Miss Palmer by whom he had a large family many of whom, however, died in infancy.

In a short time he became principal of Kearney School, Portaferry, and passed on to Groomsport School in the year 1868, then under the managership of Rev. Mack.  In 1876, he was induced by Rev S Hawthorn to come to Kircubbin as principal of our school. Under his highly efficient teaching the school prospered during the 34 years of his service, and a generation of scholars taught by him testify not only to his scholarship, but to his gift so valuable in a teacher – of being able to pass on his knowledge to others.

In the year 1910, he retired on pension having had his time of service lengthened for a year by the National Board. Early in life, he attended science and art classes in Donaghadee, and secured 1st class certificate from South Kensington Science and Art Department.

He also held the 1st of 1st class certificate from the National Board of Education, Ireland.  He specialised in mathematics and science, and was the means of helping teachers and scholars in their more advanced studies as well as being successful in preparing candidates for science and art examinations for many years.

For the past 25 years of his life, he took a special interest in the study of Biology
 
Born 81 years ago in the village of Comber, Co Down, on 18th June 1844, he passed away at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr F W Shaw, The Glebe, Kircubbin, on Sunday 28th June 1925,

To a branch of the Irish family belonged Sir Henry Blackwood, who was with Lord Nelson when he fell mortally wounded on the deck of the Victory on October 21st, 1805. Sir Henry it was who the carried the dispatches announcing the Admiral's death and the victory of Trafalgar. Sir Henry died in 1832.
