I'm a bit unsure as to whether Francis Crawford b. abt. 1797 was actually born in Ireland. I have only found a census from 1850 stating that he was from Ireland. I do know that another Crawford, Samuel Monroe Crawford, married Elizabeth Land's sister Mary Land, and that Samuel's father, George Washington Crawford, was listed as the bondsmen on the marriage record for Francis Crawford and Elizabeth Land. Samuel Monroe and George Washington Crawford b. 1776 where from Haywood, NC, as was my Francis' son William Thomas Crawford. I'm thinking George Washington Crawford and Francis Crawford might have been brothers? Hopefully the Y-DNA test will help clear this bit of a mystery up for me.

I am looking for the parents of Jonathan william Crawford born abt 1816 in Franklin County PA married Mary Jane Sanson in 1846 in Chambersburg PA. Note #1.  John (John Robert?) has in various gene sites been submitted as a son of Sir Malcolm Crawford (1551-1634), but coming down from the Crawford's Scottish ancestry, Sir Malcolm's son (John) and grand-son (John) have different spouses, and live in Kilbirnie.  The only possible link I found is a reference to Sir Malcolm's other son (Alexander), having had unrecorded wives/liaisons prior to his marriage to Mary (Marion) Crichton, before moving to Ireland.
Sir Malcolm could have sired John when he was 59, but Alexander is more likely at age 30. Alexander did have a son named John, but that John was born in Ireland. Maybe he moved to Redbourn (there's little info on him)
 
And that's biggest hurdle. My John being born in Redbourn, near London, makes it highly unlikely for a Scottish connection. I hope there is!!

So my "Patriarch" starts with John, otherwise I'd have a thousand year continuous male line!!
(maybe this DNA test I'm having can show just how far back I can go)

Uh.... sorry about this, but these Crawfords lived in Redbourne, Lincolnshire, NOT Redbourn, Hertfordshire.
That's 350Km in a straight line from the Crawford stomping ground in Ayrshire, but it means that John Crawford MAY be descended from the early Crawford families after all.
