Fields family in Colorado

Looking for information on my grandfather's family in Southwest Colorado.  My grandfather Berton Fields was born Dec. 1884, in Rico, Colorado.  He was orphaned at age 7 or 8, in Ouray, Colorado.  We believe his mother's maiden name was Mattie Phelps, and his father's name may have been Wayne Fields.  We don't know when they may have arrived in SW Colorado, or where they originated.  Any info would be appreciated.

I cam across this connection on ancestry.com too and I am not sure if we are related, but those names you have mentioned have crossed paths in the paper trail. Will look further into it. I do know however that Colorado was the main point of the Canada and United States migration for "Fields" during the late 1800's and early 1900's.
