L21 and DYS388=10

FTDNA Kit #120936 in the WTY was sequenced on November 10, and should be scored shortly. This is the only DYS388=10 out of four thousand or so L21 entries in Mike's spreadsheet. So can someone help me understand how this person (who's MDKA is Richard Merry b. ca. 1640, in Eynsham, Oxfordshire) gets DYS388=10? Are there one-time two-step mutations on slow markers? I would guess that's an answer. Maybe he will show up with a handful of new L21 SNPs.

Probably a multistep mutation is the most likely, but we should consider the whole of the values.

He is ySearch U38VD, and also watching these added values:

A fifth cousin has identical tests (through Ancestry) to the above, where about 37 are common to FTDNA. He also had the following (DYS number with value following in brackets): DYS 441 (13) 445 (12) 452 (30) 461 (12) 462 (11) 463 (24) 635 (=GATAC4?) (23) GAAT1B07 (10) GATAA10 (15)

I think that a multistep mutation is the most likely, considering that GATAA10 of Ancestry.com is the usual 13 but DYS441=13 probably 12.

I can see the Z253 designation on his Finch2 haplogroup designation but it does not show up in his SNP list under the Z253 project. How come ?

FTDNA is sometimes slow to move WTY findings to the individual's Haplotree page.

Two new SNPs L894 and L895 have been found in this kit, and L894 and L895 now appear under Z253+ in the latest draft FTDNA tree.
