We invite you to submit your "Pedigree" for this Surname.   Our Surname Project is primarily interested in your Paternal line, as surnames are passed down from father to son, just as the yDNA is passed down.

If you ARE A MEMBER of this Surname Project at Family Tree DNA, send your pedigree by email to WorldFamilies.net at mari@worldfamilies.net.  The pedigree will then be posted on the Surname Project's Patriarchs Page by Worldfamilies.net or sent to the Project’s Administrator.

Please include the following:  (If you have more information you would like to share, you may also post a more extended version of your family pedigree on the project website’s Pedigree Forum below)
•       Name of project
•       Kit Number
•       Name of person posting pedigree
•       Email address to be posted with pedigree
•       Name, birthdate, birthplace, spouse of Earliest Known Ancestor
•       List each succeeding generation, using only those four items of information (or substitute another item of information if missing an item)

If you are NOT A MEMBER of this Surname Project at Family Tree DNA, you are welcome to post your pedigree on the Pedigree Forum below.  We hope an interested researcher will see it and contact you to share information.

To post on this Pedigree Forum:
1.  Register and log in at www.worldfamilies.net.
(How do I register to post a pedigree? Click here http://www.worldfamilies.net/register)

Hi.  I'm trying to track the family prior to US arrival.  I cannot seem to get back beyond the US stuff.

1.  John Bynum (believed to originally have been Baynham but changed once coming to US. Found the surname spelled several  different ways for the same few people until it finally settled to Bynum some decades later)  b.1616 England, settled mid 1600's Surry Co, Va.  m Rosamond (Blow? some controversy re: her identity) c.1663, Surry, Va., d. 1691 Surry, Isle of Wight, Va.

2.  James Bynum b. c1666, Surry, Va., m. Elizabeth Mizzel  d. c1723 Surry, Va.

3.  William Bynum b. 1690 Surry Co. Isle of Wight, Va.  m. c1720 Mary Fort  d. c1746 Albemarle, NC

4.  William Bynum b. 1720 Isle of Wight, Va.,  m. c1740-1755 Mary (?) d. ? (the Latter Day Saints have him dead in Pendleton, S.C)

5.  Isaac Bynum b c1758, NC m. (supposedly two or three times) d. (?) c.1840 +

I do not know how to really do a pedigree here so I will attempt to write it so that you can understand what I am trying to convey.

I, Beatrice Lois Dorsett (b) 16 Feb 1953, am the daughter of Gladys Dawn James  (b) 18 Dec 1932 & Melton Alvis DORSETT (b) 22 Feb 1929 and (d) 18 Oct 1978.  Melton DORSETT is the son of Blufford Alex DORSETT and Zelda Leonie HEEDLEY.  Blufford DORSETT (b) 13 Dec 1894  (d) 23 Jul 1966 son of Richard Yancy DORSETT and Nancy Matilda WHITED and Zelda HEEDLEY (b) 28 Aug 1894 (m) 12 May 1912 (d) 5 Aug 1977 daughter of James Marion HEEDLEY (b) 7 Aug 1866/1867 (m) about 1885 to Sarah Mahala WADSWORTH (b) 1 Sep 1889 daughter of John WADSWORTH and Lavicia BYNUM (d) 27 Jun 1941.  James Marion HEEDLEY died 15 Jan 1952 of pneumonia according to the death certificate.  Lavicia BYNUM was born about 1846; (m) 24 Jun 1865/1866 in Blount Co. AL.

My Bynum line begins 4 generations back.  However, I am a direct descendant of the Isaac BYNUM that was from NC.  From whence came the BYNUMs I am not quite sure but would appreciate finding out if you could provide me with that information.

You may contact me by email at beatrice_dorsett2002@yahoo.com or by telephone at 208-816-1734.

Thank you for your help and allowing me to post to your website.

Sincerely,

Beatrice L. Dorsett

From an email from Karen:

Thank you for posting the pedigree. I do not believe that we have any
surviving males who can do the DNA testing, the Baynham name has died out in
our branch. I am descended through my grandmother, and her only brother died
in 1999. John Waller Baynham did have a son, Guy Andrew Baynham, it is
possible that he has living male descendants, I will check with his branch
of the family.

I do have an as-yet-unproven connection for John W. Baynham, my earliest
listed ancestor. I believe he is the same John W. Baynham listed as the son
of John W. Baynham and Rebecca Tillotson, b. 1834 in Montgomery Co., Tn. and
listed as being sixteen and living with them in the 1850 census. I have not
been able to prove this yet so if anyone can help, I would appreciate it. If
this is proven to be the case, the pedigree extends much further:

Dr. William Baynham, b. 1688 England, married Susanna
John Baynham, b. 1726 Caroline Co., Va., married to Joanna abt. 1748
Gregory Baynham, b. 1753 Caroline Co., Va. married 1780 to Mary Elizabeth
Eggleston, b. 1757
William G. Baynham, b. 1778 Halifax Co., Va. married 17 Sept. 1803 to Nancy
Faulkner b. 1787
John W. Baynham, b. 1810 Halifax Co., Va. married 20 Feb. 1832 in
Mecklenburg Co, Va. to Rebecca Tillotson b. 1813 Buffalo Springs,
Mecklenburg Co, Va.
John W. Baynham, b. Va. but lived in Louisville, Ky. married 25 Sep 1855 in
Christian Co., Ky. to Virginia M. Baker, b. abt. 1839 in Va. or Ky. His
son's obituary states that he was a "prominent pioneer Kentucky tobacco
warehouseman in Louisville". By 1880 Virginia had remarried David A.
Thornton and was living in Birminingham, Marshall Co., Ky. with their
children.
Tandy Max Baynham, b. 25 July 1865, Paducah, Ky. or TN, m. Sarah Allen
(Allie) Holland. There was also a brother, John Waller Baynam, b. 19 Oct
1864, Louisville, Jefferson Co., Ky., m. Jessie Davis Howe and Estelle
Black.
Mary Maxine Baynham, b. 8 Aug 1910, Mayfield, Ky., m. Joseph Milton Spalding
